Welcome to My Cyber Psychotherapy Office!
It has been my professional and personal joy to assist individuals and families to improve their quality of life for over 15 years in the Bay Area. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, but for simplicity I just refer to myself as a psychotherapist.
While I have been clinically trained in a multitude of modalities, my approach tends to be very eclectic. I see everyone as individuals who are all unique thus requiring a customized and individual approach. Most people in my practice I typically see for an hour once a week, but some I see twice a week, some I see for 90 minute sessions, some I see every other week, and a few I see as seldom as once a month.I do not have any professional relationships with managed care organizations, therefore your personal information never goes beyond the confines of my office without your personal approval. I have excellent relationships with other health and personal care professionals, so it is no problem for me to coordinate with psychiatrists, physicians, teachers, attorneys, or other mental health professionals that are already in your life. It is always my intention to be a part of your system of care for a healthy and productive life. While many psychotherapists are still somewhat uncomfortable with high technology, I am very comfortable communicating with people via email when necessary, and phone calls are typically always returned the same day unless I am traveling. My work week is Monday through Thursday except for the occasional emergency. I will see people as early as 8 AM, and as late as 9:30 PM. I hope you will find my office to be a casual and comfortable environment.
Since I do no public advertising, all my business comes from professional referral and word of mouth. My assumption when people seek me out professionally is that they are seriously committed to creating positive change in their lives or in their family. Therefore I am the type of therapist that participates in the process rather than sitting in my chair and nodding at the people in my office. It will be fairly typical for someone to leave my office with 'homework' of one fashion or another. While I will typically only share with you an hour of your week, it is my intention that our time together will serve you throughout your entire week until our paths cross again.
My private practice is the core of my professional life, but it is not the only aspect of my career. I have contributed a great deal to my local community through volunteering and pro bono services. Locally I served on the United Way Contra Costa County Leadership Board, and for 7 years I served on the Board of Directors of New Connections. I was also the pro bono director of Mental Heath Services for a local county agency for a number of years. I was the Founding Chair of the California Disaster Mental Health Coalition. Over the years I have done numerous in-services and workshops for PTA groups, local school districts, and various agencies. Presently I am the President-Elect of the State Board of Directors of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. Further details about my background can be found under the 'resume' tab on this web page.
While I am aware this only gives you a small flavor of who I am, please feel free to contact me with questions and for further details about my practice. On this page you will notice tabs for a number of subjects, as time provides I will be filling up these subject areas with resources and information I hope you will find valuable. These specific subject areas cover many of my areas of practice, but certainly not all of them. I do not accept referrals to work with women who have been recently sexually abused, or for children younger than 8 years old except when it is a custody related issue.
The majority of the photos on this web site have been taken by me on my various travels.
